Talk To Glowfic Characters

So we've started answering comments in "How To Read Effulgence" in character, and that's not really the ideal platform for those conversations. This is! You may address characters here and we may opt to answer in character. You will get a kind of loosely "backstage" out-of-continuity version of the character (in continuity proper, you cannot talk to them, since you aren't there) and if you want them at a specific (past relative to where we're writing) point in time, feel free to specify (e.g. "Addy in 1932", "Shell in her box", "the Joker while committed", "Minus right after he woke up from turning", "the alethiometer on the subject of 1207").

Any glowfic author may use this thread to receive questions.

Milliways is basically exactly what it looks like, I'm afraid I don't have a lot of extra insight here. It's a world, but of a unique kind (Downside is also an unusual kind, but it behaves more like a regular world than Milliways does). Milliways is kind of the Joker of world "niceness". It'll be nice or terrible according to inscrutable whim. It can be relied upon in certain ways, except when it can't. I don't have anything else at this time, although a detailed inspection of the place is on my long-term to-do list.

Hey, the party’s over now. Learn anything new? For example, is Bar green, or does your aura not work on her, or what?

This sort of thing isn't all that high-priority. I do have two wives and three children and an Enchanted Forest and several disciplines of magic and the rest of my world on my plate, and the party hasn't been over long.

Bar isn't a template, and the... thing... that displays templateyness is the same thing that displays moiety. People who aren't templates I can't always tell which they are. If you threatened to, I don't know, harm Tanalin's fluffbat Sunrise if I didn't guess, I'd guess green, but it's actually kind of hard to see metacausality of things that are in and firmly attached to Milliways in general, and Bar's so absurdly magically complicated that seeing anything about her is also harder than usual when I have my aura out. I usually prefer not to look at Bar when I have my aura out at all.

I guess it makes sense that the party hasn’t been over long, or you would have all gotten a panicked message from Angela by now. It’s interesting that Bar isn’t a template; that lends evidence to my suspicion that there is only one Milliways in the multiverse, at least for now (whatever “now” means when Milliways time travel is involved).

If templateyness is related to moiety, does the speed at which you identified the Admin as purple indicate that she’s a template? I wouldn’t expect you to meet another one of her even if so; most worlds don’t seem to have any afterlife, so even having another Downside floating around wouldn’t necessarily lead you there.

Admin, if you did encounter another you with another one of your domain, what would you do? Do you expect you’d be able to merge your domains, and would you want to? Would you tell the pealor Jane about the other you, or vice versa? I’m not sure how you’d meet an alt of yourself without their help, seeing as your domain probably couldn’t spontaneously connect to another afterlife and you rarely if ever leave, but it’s presumably possible.

The likeliest possible way for me to encounter an alt of myself with another of my domain would be for someone else to find one and notify me. If that happened, I would ask someone to install several redundant ansible connections between our domains so that we could communicate easily. Further details would depend on the state her domain was in.

The admin's also shiny, so that helps some. She doesn't look particularly templatey though. Maybe there's one or two more of her.
