So we've started answering comments in "How To Read Effulgence" in character, and that's not really the ideal platform for those conversations. This is! You may address characters here and we may opt to answer in character. You will get a kind of loosely "backstage" out-of-continuity version of the character (in continuity proper, you cannot talk to them, since you aren't there) and if you want them at a specific (past relative to where we're writing) point in time, feel free to specify (e.g. "Addy in 1932", "Shell in her box", "the Joker while committed", "Minus right after he woke up from turning", "the alethiometer on the subject of 1207").

Elcenian dragons
Date: 2014-01-16 06:24 am (UTC)Could coins (with or without Lazarus et al) fix the Elcenian dragon infant mortality rate? (Probably, methinks, but worth asking)
Could Sarion use coins to dump extra power onto the Wild Magic, or the elves' pool of dragon-sourced magic? Not changing them in any way, just spending an evil or so to boost what is apparently a rather limited supply.

Date: 2014-01-16 02:42 pm (UTC)Okay, first one: The Wild Magic is made of a lot of very delicate balances all working together. Using a wishcoin to try to give it more power would be sort of like trying to warm up your feet by setting your socks on fire. In the absolute most technical sense, it'll work... but you won't be left with an actual improvement on the situation. I guess somebody who knew practically everything about how the Wild Magic works could do it, but even I don't know that and I'm a unicorn.
As for the elves, that's slightly more possible. You'd have to be really, really careful about it, though. It might take a long time just to figure out how to do it without the socks-on-fire effect.
