So we've started answering comments in "How To Read Effulgence" in character, and that's not really the ideal platform for those conversations. This is! You may address characters here and we may opt to answer in character. You will get a kind of loosely "backstage" out-of-continuity version of the character (in continuity proper, you cannot talk to them, since you aren't there) and if you want them at a specific (past relative to where we're writing) point in time, feel free to specify (e.g. "Addy in 1932", "Shell in her box", "the Joker while committed", "Minus right after he woke up from turning", "the alethiometer on the subject of 1207").

Any glowfic author may use this thread to receive questions.

Elcenian dragons

I'm wondering, what size coin it would take to transform a human into an Elcenian dragon? What about creating 'unique' Elcenian dragons? And turning a regular one into a 'unique'?

Could coins (with or without Lazarus et al) fix the Elcenian dragon infant mortality rate? (Probably, methinks, but worth asking)

Could Sarion use coins to dump extra power onto the Wild Magic, or the elves' pool of dragon-sourced magic? Not changing them in any way, just spending an evil or so to boost what is apparently a rather limited supply.

Sorry, forgot to say who I'm asking. Let's ask Glass about Elcenia (assuming Glass knows about Elcenia) and ask Sarion the things about her world.

I can know about Elcenia in this thread! My estimate is that you could turn a nondragon into (or create a viable egg of a brand new instance of) an Elcenian dragon of any desired power level (regular, unusual, unique) with an evil, and that it would also take an evil to upgrade an existing dragon - basically, adding new dragon magic to the pool in any medium-sized quantity like that would take one evil, but an evil covers all amounts of magic that can fit into one naturally-occurring dragon. By the same token, you could make enough dragon magic for all baby dragons to live past the danger zone with approximately an evil per baby, maybe a little more efficiently if you worked in batches.

I didn't quite catch that insufficient magic was what was causing baby Elcenian dragons to die so much, thanks for clearing that up.

It seems to me that you might better ask Liselen what would happen. I would consult him before trying it.

Ah, I forgot that Liselen was the one to ask about Wild Magic. Liselen, do you think it would work, would it mess anything up or endanger people to just straight-up give the Wild Magic more power to work with?

Hey check it out, I've got an icon now!

Okay, first one: The Wild Magic is made of a lot of very delicate balances all working together. Using a wishcoin to try to give it more power would be sort of like trying to warm up your feet by setting your socks on fire. In the absolute most technical sense, it'll work... but you won't be left with an actual improvement on the situation. I guess somebody who knew practically everything about how the Wild Magic works could do it, but even I don't know that and I'm a unicorn.

As for the elves, that's slightly more possible. You'd have to be really, really careful about it, though. It might take a long time just to figure out how to do it without the socks-on-fire effect.
